Signs of Termites

TERMITE FACTS & SIGNS:

Unfortunately, TERMITES will not stop, unless you stop them. Termites are designed for destruction and cause nearly $5 billion in damage to U.S. properties very year. If you can spot termite signs early and start treatment before the damage is detrimental and expensive repairs can be avoided.

FACTS ABOUT TERMITES:

  • Live in colonies of several thousand to several million foragers
  •  Have been known to destroy lead, asphalt, plaster or even mortar when in search of wood
  • Are found in every U.S. state except Alaska
  •  Infest over four-million U.S. homes each year
  • Cause damage in hidden areas, behind walls, in crawl spaces and basements
  •  Can go unnoticed for years while continuing to damage your property
  • Create costly destruction that most insurance policies DO NOT cover

What type of treatment will we perform?

TERMITE MONITORING BAIT SYSTEM:

Our Termite Control services include installing termite monitoring stations around the perimeter of a property. Upon finding termites in the stations, a bait cartridge is installed, which attracts the termites to feed and kills the colony. The monitoring stations are inspected regularly (typically every 3 months unless needed sooner). Depending on your situation, it may also involve drilling into your porch, garage, brick siding and other slab in and around your property.

Termidor Application:

Termidor is a professionally applied termite defense product that is undetectable to termites. Since its introduction, over 4 million homes have been protected with Termidor and is used as a quality termite defense product. This product is applied to soil, direct wood, or in wall voids along the foundation of your home to create a continuous treatment zone.

SIGNS OF TERMITES:

Usually the first sign of a termite infestation is the presence of flying termites — called swarmers. These swarmers start to appear as the weather becomes warmer. Subterranean termites swarm during the spring season. In the event you see discarded wings or a swarm of insects then this is the time contact a termite professional and schedule an inspection.

A common mistake people make is confusing termites with white ants. This misconception is an easy one to make as ants and termites are very similar in both shape, size and in some cases behavior. There are some differences in their appearance that our trained pest professionals can point out to accurately identify what pest is pestering you.

Termites also make tunnels in wood known as "gallories" or build subterranean tunnels known as "mud tubes"  where they store and transport their food.

Both termite species create blow holes in trees, but the most visible is the subterranean species, which form their colonies inside tree trunks. In wood an audible hollow sound maybe heard if termites have infested.

If you see any of these signs it is best to contact a termite pest professional right away. Ampulex Pest Control offers affordable quality termite abatement.
